This Friday, 29 August, is United Nations International Day Against Nuclear Tests.
Back in August 2011, the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki Moon, said that nuclear disarmament would greatly contribute to world peace and stability, and should be addressed immediately.
The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty was brought in to reduce and eliminate nuclear weapons, however not all countries have signed up to it, including India - which recent reports suggest will be the recipient of Australian uranium.
Host, Sam King, spoke with Professor Ramesh Thakur, Director at the Centre for Nuclear Non-Proliferation & Disarmament at ANU in Canberra.
