A Virtual You Upon Passing and the Implications

Traditionally speaking, once we die, we cease to exist. But now social media could give us a way to live on even after we die. Sort of.

The idea of a digital gravestone is not quite new. Already, there are some American and Asian funeral companies that engrave QR codes into tombstones that when scanned take users to an online memorial page.

But social media is going even further. Programs such as Dead Social and LivesOn have been developed to help preserve people's existence. Launching soon is Eterni.Me, a program which collects information that you create from Facebook, Twitter, e-mail, and videos to generate a virtual you, an avatar that can interact with your friends and family. But is it going too far? Should we be able to live on after we die?
