Last Saturday was International day for Monuments and Sites.
Established in 1983 by UNESCO, it is organised by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS).
The day provides the opportunity to celebrate the world's diverse and wide range of cultural heritage.
But why is it so important that we need a day to celebrate important sites and monuments?
Sam Baran spoke to Kerime Danis, the Secretary of the Australian committee for International Council on Monuments and Sites, and began by asking what exactly is meant by the term monuments and sites.
