Are critics of aid doing evil? Bill Gates was in Australia recently and made a comment to that effect on the ABC's Q and A program. Not surprisingly the response to Gates's comments was pretty spirited and one of the more interesting and informed commentators was Edward Carr. Ed is an Associate Professor in the Department of Geography at the University of South Carolina. For more than 14 years he has worked in rural sub-Saharan Africa. He has worked with US AID and is a consultant to the World BAnk on issues of adaptation and development. Ed is also an author and blogger and his book 'Delivering Development: Gobalization's Shoreline and the road to a Sustainable Future' was recently released.
AidWorks editor-at-large Cate Coorey spoke to Ed Carr about Bill Gates, aid criticism and how criticism can help us to make development better.
