Following a self-imposed three year hiatus, Sunderland's Field Music are set to return with a new 20 track double album of artful English indie pop, due for release on Spunk February 12, 2010.
After releasing their eponymous self-titled debut in late 2005 and full length album number two ‘Tones Of Town’ in January 2007, Field Music (powered by brothers and co-front men Peter and David Brewis) decided to take a break from producing as a band to work on solo material. David released an album under the name School Of Language and Peter recorded an album as The Week That Was, both of which were released in early and late 2008 respectively. After these solo outings, the pair decided to come together once again to work on their third Field Music album, recruiting Kev Dosdale for guitar and keys and Ian Black bass guitar.
The new album is self titled, but identified as ‘Field Music (Measure)’ to distinguish it from their debut album, and a gloriously rich collection of songs that entwine the brother's renewed love of the rock music cannon with a rediscovery of some of pop's overlooked adventurers. Rather than presenting as a cohesive and precise whole, as have previous Field Music recordings, ‘Field Music (Measure)’ is awash with influences and sounds that flow into, override, and intrude upon one another. Having renewed their love of classic rock, with nods to Led Zeppelin, Lou Reed and The Beatles, this Field Music album also borrows from the popular music of yesteryear, evoking Roxy Music, Fleetwood Mac, and Prince.
