TRYHARD TRAILER TRASH is Rose Turtle Ertler's second solo CD released through Scootstar Records, the first being Ping Pong Princess (2002) which was recorded in just three days...
This time round, more consideration was given to the recorded product as a work in itself rather than as a document of the live versions of songs. All eleven tracks feature ukulele played through a range of FX as well as vocals. Extra instrumentation includes programmed drums, theremin, xylophone and keyboards all played by Rose as well as bass guitar by Steve Fraser and guest trumpeter Declan Jones.
Most tracks were recorded inside the strawbale and mud walls of Little Gold Studio, located at Irene Community Warehouse in Brunswick, Melbourne, using a combination of analog and digital equipment. Steve Fraser was the engineer.
A few songs were recorded in Rose's caravan and one during a visit to Belgium last year. All songs are originals by Rose except 'In mijn Caravan' a hit in Belgium in 1979 by Will Tura. Sung in Flemish, this song lists all the features of the perfect caravan: hifi, St Bernard dog, FM stereo, beauty specialist, diskotech, direct line to Wall St, etc.
The album was mastered by Michael den Elzen.
ROSE TURTLE ERTLER has been involved with numerous music/theatre projects for the past fourteen years. She was a founding member of the notorious Post Arrivalists (1991-1995); women's comedy group Frumpus (1994-95); and electronic toy band Toydeath (1996-2001). Since relocating to Melbourne two years ago, Rose's main focus has been various ukulele projects. She is a member of MUK (Melbourne Ukulele Kollective) a thirty piece ukulele band and has recently begun initial research for a book documenting ukulele players in Australia. Rose is also the organizer of Ukulele Land, an annual concert held in Sydney featuring some of the country's best players.
