Women's Community Shelters

More than one in two women across Australia who seek a bed in a crisis shelter are turned away every night, primarily due to a lack of space. This highlights the urgent need for more safe and supportive emergency accommodation for women in New South Wales. Despite this, government funding for homelessness services has been cut repeatedly in recent times. Women's Community Shelters is an organisation that provides women and their children with up to three months of short term emergency at a number of shelters across Sydney and we were joined the organisation's CEO Annabelle Daniel, to talk about three new shelters opening up later this year.

For Films Sake- The Big Pineapple Grant

You may remember the controversy surrounding Tropfest last year when only one out of 16 directors were female. Well despite a wealth of creative women in this country for every one female film director in Australia, are 15 male directors.

But thankfully there are some fantastic women working to redress this gender imbalance on the big screen. For Films Sake, formerly WOW festival fun by WIFT - women in film and TV are gearing up with a film festival & $50k grant for a film project.

Sophie Mathisen from For Films Sake joined jess to explaine how the Big Pineapple Grant works.
