Vocational Training in Radio Broadcasting
Radio is an exciting and complex medium which requires lots of different skills. Just putting one radio program to air requires skills in researching, writing, interviewing, editing, presenting and panelling, not to mention a lot of talking.
2SER radioschool short courses are the first step to laying the foundation for a career in radio.
In 2SER's Radio Presentation and Digital Production courses you will learn how to operate a studio panel, prepare and present all sorts of radio programs using digital production and editing suites, as well as learning the basics about the laws which govern the media.
Radio Interviewing and News and Writing for radio examines news, interviewing and copywriting techniques. You will
learn how to conduct an interview and use digital recording equipment. You will
also develop writing skills for news, feature stories, and talks-based
production.
National Accreditation
All our short courses are nationally accredited units drawn from Certificate II and III in Broadcasting (Radio) CUF20401/CUF30301. Upon successful completion of a course each student is presented with the appropriate certificate of attainment from the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia (Registered Training Organisation).
Workshop Format
Each of our hugely successful short courses are taught in an intensive format of 6 workshops across a 3 week timeframe.
Classes are held on Wednesday evenings 6-9pm and Saturdays 10am-1pm with a practical session (minimum 2 hours) each Saturday afternoon. Students wanting to undertake additional practice within the duration of the course, can book sessions in Studio 3 during weekday office hours.
All our courses take place in a real working radio station ( 2SER broadcasts 80 radio programs across a 24/7 schedule to the Sydney greater metropolitan region ), with student access to contemporary radio production equipment in a dedicated working studio.

Payment secures your place in the course, university students are able to apply for a 10% discount on presentation of university student card.
Digital Production
In this course learn how to record and edit interviews, mix voice with music/sound effects, and produce your own radio feature or mini-documentary. This course teaches digital editing and production using Adobe Audition. Note: You will need some basic computer skills (eg. word processing or email) to do this course).
Class time: Total 15hrs plus (at least) 6 hours practical.

Radio Presentation
This introductory course will show you what it takes to become a radio announcer and producer. You don’t need any prior experience in radio, just bring your voice. The course includes instruction on microphone technique, how to make the most of your voice and how to operate an on-air studio panel. We’ll also cover the basics of program production. If you’re interested in a career in radio announcing or you want to improve your presentation skills at work, the radio announcing course will build your confidence in a fun, working environment.
Class time: Total 18hrs plus (at least) 6 hours practical.
Cost: $480 Next Course Begins Sat 1st November 2008 (Nov 1,5,8,12,15,19 ).

Radio Industry
Who’s who in the Australian radio industry. This short course gives learners an insight into how the radio industry in Australia is structured and who regulates it. You will also find out about career opportunities and other related employment issues.
Class time: Total 6 hours
Cost: $220
Radio Interviewing
Learn what it takes to interview people for news, current affairs and talks-based programs. This course covers researching skills, the use of recording equipment and interviewing for radio. If you are interested in becoming a journalist this is the course for you.
Class time: 12 hours
Cost: $350.00
News and Writing for Radio
This course will teach you the basics in writing news, current affairs, and in depth features. You will learn to put together a news bulletin, and develop skills in how to get a message across to listeners, as well as improving your writing style.
Class time: 12 hours
Cost: $350.00
Students are encouraged to undertake practical sessions outside of scheduled workshops.
Some research and homework between classes will also be a requirement.
2SER’s production facilities and portable equipment will be available for student use.
