A century of US and Venezuela tensions explained

The recent US military operation that removed Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro has been called unprecedented, but for those who know the history of US and Venezuela relations, it’s perhaps not entirely unexpected.
Venezuela sits on the world’s largest proven oil reserves and has spent much of the past century entangled with US economic and political interests.
