“2” by Yalla Miku

The Feature Album this week on 2SER is “2” by Yalla Miku, the Swiss-Eritrean group lead by Bongo Joe Records founder (and “ufo Banjo” impresario) Cyril Yeterian.
Yalla Miku are Samuel Ades (Krar) Louise Knobil (Bass), Cyril Bondi (Percussion) Emma Souharce (Keys, Synth) and Vocals & Cyril Yeterian (Ufo Banjo, Electric Guitar).
Recorded live and performed in French and Arabic, the Geneva-based five piece’s second album smears the senses with an alchemised assault of urgent machine music, punk, psych-folk, disco and experimental jazz with the sounds of the Horn of Africa.
Every member of the band take turns on vocals, telling personal stories ranging from their respective hometowns, heritage as well as refugee experiences.
It’s a bold mutant fusion that takes chances at every turn and a wild evolution of a group that was already pushing the envelope. Out now on Bongo Joe, it’s a brilliant, must-hear piece of music.
Available on vinyl, cd and digital via Disques du Bongo Joe.
