Hourglass by Antibalas

The Feature Album this week on 2SER is Hourglass by Antibalas.

The veteran New York City jazz ensemble return to their instrumental roots with a tenth studio record of otherworldly funk and irresistible, groove-forward afrobeat.

Antibalas (“anti-ballistic” in Spanish) formed in Brooklyn in 1998 and are a 12-piece ensemble and have since gone on to be a key driving force re-introducing Afrobeat to a modern global audience. Hourglass is their tenth studio album and sees the outfit returning to its instrumental roots. Co-Founder of Antibalas Martina wanted so pull back on their more recent lyrical work and speak through melody and rhythm, seeing it as a more effective way to convey the emotions in their music more universally accessible.
