Jewish Activists Take NSW Protest Laws To Court

The New South Wales Government is facing a legal challenge over its short-term protest laws, which critics argue unduly restrict the right to protest and free expression.
The laws have already been used to disperse a major demonstration and are believed to have deterred others from going ahead. The government says the measures are necessary to maintain public safety and reduce social tension, while opponents warn they set a troubling precedent for civil liberties.
One of the groups challenging the laws is Jews Against the Occupation ’48, which argues the legislation disproportionately curtails political expression.
Joining 2SER Breakfast to discuss the legal challenge with Tina Quinn were JAO members, Judith Treanor and Alan Uhlmann.
