Mama Does Derby for Sydney Festival

Roller Derby meets music and theatre in this spectacular production that celebrates family and self-reinvention.
Written by Clare Watson and Virginia Gay, Mama Does Derby premieres for Sydney Festival at Sydney Town Hall from January 15th to 22nd.
This production will see the Town Hall venue turned into a derby rink, with incredible theatrical choreography telling a story of self-expression. A single mum, a teenage daughter, and a new life in a regional town where neither quite fits. Billie is 16 and restless, trying to navigate the chaos of adolescence. Mum, meanwhile, is spinning into a rebellion of her own – in the sweaty, rough and radical world of roller derby.
Monday Daily’s Eva and Will chatted to assistant director and choreographer Larissa McGowan about working with roller derby professionals and all of the camaraderie behind the scenes.
