A New Way To Treat Breast Cancer

Growing numbers of NSW breast cancer patients are being offered hypofractionated radiotherapy which is reducing their treatment time and time in hospital.

This new form of radiotherapy is now considered the ‘gold standard’ of care for early stage breast cancer patients, and uses more intense doses of radiation in fewer sessions

In the end, patients are exposed to less radiotherapy than the standard treatment, which is a major benefit cost-wise and more broadly for their personal health.

We spoke to Professor Verity Ahern, radiation oncologist at Westmead Hospital’s Crown Princess Mary Cancer Centre.
