AI chatbots outsmart scammers in world-first pilot

Phone scammers are a scourge, robbing more than $2.7 billion from Australians last year.

But an anti-scam pilot run jointly by Macquarie University and the Commonwealth Bank is using AI chatbots to tie up the scammers on lengthy phone calls.

Professor Dali Kaafar is behind this technology, called Apate-AI. He’s run this pilot for two years now and it’s really making inroads against the scammers.

He is Professor at the Faculty of Science and Engineering at Macquarie University, Executive Director of The Macquarie University Cyber Security Hub, and Founder and CEO of Apate.AI.

He joined us on the Thursday Daily to tell us what he found.
