Artificial Intelligence that can feel empathy

Artificial Intelligence is constantly growing in popularity and exposure with the Google Assistant, Apple’s Siri and Windows’ Cortana built into our smart devices. Recent developments in the field of robotics has led to Artificial Intelligence being trained to have empathy. But why do we need Artificial Intelligence to have empathy and is it ethical?
