Breakthrough early pregnancy blood test for foetal abnormalities

If you’re a woman who’s pregnant, all you want is for your baby to be born healthy.

We spoke with Dr Marnie Winter, a biomedical engineer at the University of South Australia, about the work she and Dr Benjamin Thierry have been undertaking.

A wide range of fetal genetic abnormalities could soon be detected in early pregnancy thanks to a world-first study led by University of South Australia researchers. It may soon become possible to screen for such abnormalities in maternal blood.
