Byron Shire Council to support local’s lifelong dream of giant chess board

A local resident in Byron Bay is planning a massive project for the community. 

Peter Hanna founded the Byron Bay Chess Club more than twenty years ago, and earlier this month brought his love for the game to the last Byron Shire Council meeting before upcoming local government elections in September.

He’s raised a petition with more than 1100 signatures to make a nine square-meter chess board a permanent reality.
