Can We Really Predict a Volcanic Eruption?

Last week’s tragedy in NZ reminded the world that volcanoes remain a modern threat. However, discussions quickly turned to what could have been done, if anything to prevent the tragic loss of lives that occurred on Whakaari/White Island, whether it indeed could have been predicted and ultimately avoided. To discuss whether we really can predict volcanic eruptions, we were joined by Professor Heather Handley from Macquarie University’s Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences.
