Celebrity Deaths: Why Do They Impact Us?

With the recent passing of Aretha Franklin, the death of celebrities is something that can hit some of us hard. When a famous person passes away, it can provoke an intense emotional response, however has it always been like this or has the modern nature of media given the illusions that we have a closer relationship to celebrities?
