What the closing of Manus actually means

Yesterday the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea announced Manus Island Detention Centre would close in a move that many refugee advocates thought would see the refugees brought to Australia, however immigration minister Peter Dutton stated “No one from Manus will be settled in Australia.”

The move has angered many refugee advocates and supporters with a social media campaign arrising in respone to the minister’s comments calling on the government to: #bringthemhere
