Dangerous Selfies

Everyone takes selfies these days; photos of yourself on your phone shows you living life to the full. Social media loves them and the more exotic, beautiful or strange the selfie, the more traffic that photo can bring in online.

But what about the dangers of selfies? It’s no joke. In the rush to drive internet traffic, influencers are taking photos in nature reserves, on cliffs or in other risky areas, putting themselves and these natural areas in jeopardy.

Dr. Amy Peden, a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Population Health at the University of New South Wales, joined us to discuss the dangers of selfies in risky environments.
