Detecting Melanoma in Seconds

Daniel Louie, a PhD student at the University of British Columbia is developing a cost-effective device to be used as a preliminary screening tool for detecting Melanoma. It provides measurements that are easily interoperated into numerical results similar to a thermometer. Early detection of Melanoma has proved a 99% survival rate while patients detected at a later stage have a significant drop of only 15-20% chance of survival. The new mechanism brings forth the possibility of early detection, treatment and removal. To discuss this further, we are joined by Daniel Louie and the research supervisor Dr. Tim Lee.
