Dictionary of Sydney: Whaling

Over the weekend, there was sad news that 145 whales died on a remote New Zealand beach. This week on Dictionary of Sydney, Nicole Cama takes a look at Sydney’s dark whaling history.

Whaling was once considered one of Australia’s main industries, with British whalers and sealers the most frequent visitors to Port Jackson in the decade following colonisation.
