Economic Implications of Hosting Major Sporting Events

There’s been plenty of publicity surrounding the upcoming 2018 Commonwealth Games to be held at the Gold Coast. Many cities across Australia are expected to follow suit with cities in Western Sydney and regional towns across Victoria showing their interest in hosting major sporting events. But does hosting these large sporting events make economic sense?

Matthew Wright was joined by the Professor David Rowe from the Institute for  Culture and society at Western Sydney University, to discuss the social and economic impacts of hosting such an event.
