Exo-Planet Found with Eccentric Orbit

A new planet, HD76920b, has recently been found orbiting almost as twice as far from its star as Earth does from the sun. The planet is four times the mass of Jupiter, and can be found some 587 light years away in the southern constellation Volans, the Flying Fish. Before the first discovery of an exoplanet, astronomers relied heavily on the information that our own solar system provided. However, this new finding can significantly aid in the research behind the formation of planetary systems and the evolution of them over time, as well as providing new individual information. We spoke to Jake Clark, a PhD Student from the University of Southern Queensland.
