Extreme Weather and Housing

Weather events in Australia have always been extreme, with bushfires and floods plaguing our livelihoods. The development of climate change has only increased the severity and frequency of these events. Extreme weather coupled with the high cost of living puts households in vulnerable positions, where their only option may be to buy a cheaper property with greater risks. 

Earlier in the week, producer Hannah spoke with Jens Zinn, T R Ashworth Associate Professor of Sociology in the School of Social and Political Sciences at The University of Melbourne, and Julia Plass, a scientific assistant at the Chair for Cultural Geography at the University of Bayreuth, about the connection between Australia’s extreme weather and the housing crisis.
