Fibromyalgia and the stigma around chronic pain

Up until recently, fibromyalgia was a medical mystery.

The chronic pain disorder causes widespread and chronic pain throughout the body where even the slightest touch can be sensitive.

And despite the estimated 2-5% of the developed world living with fibromyalgia, the condition has a long history of stigma with some medical explanations having called it psychosomatic, “made up” and “all in your head”.
