Homelessness and Extreme Heat

The 2025/2026 summer season is set to be another filled with below average rainfall and increased day and night temperatures for Sydney-and the city’s homeless population are feeling the brunt of extreme weather.
Sunburn, heat stroke and medication issues are just some of the things that rough sleepers have to contend with as a result of increased temperatures.Thankfully, though, efforts are being made to support the homeless as we head into summer. Jon Swain, Homelessness Manager at the City of Sydney, joined the Wednesday Daily to discuss how extreme weather affects rough sleepers, as well as what us being done to help.
