Intergenerational care programs

With an ageing population due to decreased birth rates combined with moves away from the traditional family unit, formal care for both young and old Australians is in increasing demand and in limited supply. To combat this, Griffith University has been trialling an Intergenerational Care Program which combines care for older Australians with dementia and children aged between 3 and 5 years. Such programs have been gaining popularity in the United States and United Kingdom and seen great benefits to both parties. We chatted about this with Dr Katrina Radford, Lecturer and Deputy Director Research in the Department of International Business and Asian Studies at Griffith Business School.
