Land Titling For Remote Indigenous Communities

Land titling in Australia for remote Indigenous Australians has undergone a major legal shift in how these lands are treated and developed. Indigenous Australians generally want to honour their country and their traditional customs and connection to ancestral land. However conflicting interests from government mean these communities struggle, particularly when a dominant interest is from a certain perspective of economic growth. The Daily spoke with Jon Altman, Emeritus Professor at the School of Regulation and Global Governance at the Australian National University to discuss how an alternative approach to economics could drive the kinds of policies that respect Indigenous Australians’ wishes.
