Making your scraps worth saving

Australia wastes millions of tonnes of food every year, and most of it goes straight to landfill. Not only is it a waste of food, those rotting scraps create methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Which is why the NSW Government has mandated food scraps recycling by 2025.

The City of Sydney has recycled 1000 tonnes of leftovers from Sydney’s dinner plates into compost and energy over the past couple of years.

Wednesday host of The Daily, Oscar Byrne, talked to City of Sydney waste expert Kath McLaughlin about how the scheme works.
