Malaysia Is Italy’s Dumping Ground

In the first nine months of 2019, Greenpeace found Italian Companies illegally exporting close to 1300 tonnes of plastic waste. Most of the unrecyclable plastic waste has just ended up in landfill near homes which have put the local populations health at risk. Malaysia is not just the dumping ground of Italy, but the whole world with their biggest exported being UK, France, U.S and Japan. Malaysia’s Minister has now put her foot down to the illegal export of hazardous waste into the country. Dr Trevor Thornton from Deakin University joined us to discuss the outcomes of this issue.
