Mardi Gras at the SCG: New homeland or something more?

With the lead up to Mardi Gras, Sydney’s easing of COVID-19 restrictions could not come at a better time. A celebration which has taken place for 43 years and called Oxford Street it’s home. In light of social distancing restrictions, the Mardi Gras Parade took place at Sydney Cricket Ground in 2021.

In 2022, we are seeing the same thing happen and asking if this is still necessary with things in Sydney opening up?

2SER Breakfast was joined by Clifford Lewis, a senior lecturer of Marketing and Management at Charles Sturt University, to discuss the ideas of why taking up physical public space and visual representation is so important to the LGBTQ+ community.
