Are Medical Schools too hard?

Entry into Australia’s medical schools, both undergraduate and graduate students are extremely competitive, with the highest ATAR requirements and near perfect marks needed to succeed.

However, in 2015, forty medicine graduates failed to secure an internship which is required to gain general registration as a medical professional.

Is this environment too tough for Australian students of medicine, when Australia has already begun importing overseas doctors?
