Microplastic in compost poses risk to food safety: research

A new study from Griffith University has discovered alarming levels of microplastics in compost samples across Victoria.  Each kilogram has been shown to contain thousands of plastic particles.

Contamination is a significant risk to soil health and food safety, as microplastics can degrade into nanoplastics that are absorbed by plant roots and enter the food chain.
