New SA Bill to increase wombat protection after a decade of burrow destructions

Content warning: the following contains reference to animal suffering and cruelty.

A local wombat advocate says “thousands of wombats are buried alive every year.”  Legislation enacting greater protections for wombats passed the South Australian Parliament last week following a decade-long fight from advocates to prevent burrow destruction.

The Greens Bill will ensure it is explicitly illegal to kill wombats while adding greater protection to the species’ burrows in zoned areas.
