It goes without saying that AI is present in all facets of existence these days – and music is no exception.

Artists are now experimenting with AI as a creative tool, streaming platforms increasingly use it to make recommendations, and music labels – which initially tried to sue AI companies – have recently began partnering with them. The rise of AI-generated music has sparked major controversy, particularly around companies training models on copyrighted music without permission.

Dr Sophie Freeman from the University of Melbourne joined 2SER Breakfast with Danny Chifley to break down how AI is reshaping the music industry – and what is being done to protect artists in this rapidly changing landscape.
