“One in a Hundred Year” Weather Events

A couple of weeks ago we experienced record breaking rain-fall that has led to historic flooding and not to also forget the record breaking fires last year. These extreme weather patterns are being described as 1 in 30 year event, 1 in 50 year event or even a 1 in 100 year event. But why is such record breaking and  historical weather events happening so often? Professor Andy Pitman, Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes, at The University of New South Wales joined us earlier to explain why these 1 in 100 year events keep happening.
