Parents fear passing on accent to their children

 While more than one-fifth of Australians speak a language other than English at home, a recent Australian article reveals that parents whose native tongue is not English are afraid to speak with their child in their native language and English in fear of passing on their accent.

However, despite the article revealing the shame parents experience, it also discuss the advantages and benefits of possessing the ability to speak another language.

Joined by co-author of the article, Professor in Linguistics at MARCS Institute for Brain, Behavior and Development of Western Sydney University, Paola Escudero discuss with us at The Daily why parents experience shame in passing on their accent and what perks there are with speaking more than one language.
