Patriotism vs. Nationalism

In the remembrance ceremony commemorating the centennial of World War I last year, French President Emmanuel Macron condemned nationalism as a “betrayal of patriotism”. Today, patriotism often gets a bad wrap because of its perceived similarities to ‘nationalism’. Before the Trumpian era, patriotism used to be considered a positive thing. So where’s the line between patriotism and nationalism?
