The prevalence of PTSD among war veterans

One in four people exposed to traumatic events develop post-traumatic-stress-disorder.

PTSD can present itself in a number of ways – through disturbing thoughts and feelings, nightmares, changing interactions with people and it can also turn into other mental health disorders such as depression.

Normally those who develop PTSD have been exposed to traumatic events such as sexual or physical assault, a traffic collision, a near death experience, or have been engaged in warfare.

David Berle is a Senior Lecturer in Clincial Pyschology at the University of Technology Sydney and has been researching the experience of PTSD for those who’ve worked in a warzone.
