Queensland sex worker legislation threatens workers’ safety, advocates say

Advocates have renewed calls for an overhaul of sex work legislation in Queensland, saying it threatens workers’ safety.

This comes ahead of the Queensland Law Reform Commission handing down its recommendations into decriminalising the industry.

DecrimQLD, a large group of sex workers from across the state, have joined with advocacy and support organization Respect Inc to call for comprehensive decriminalisation that protects all workers.

DecrimQLD campaign leader Janelle Fawkes speaks to The Wire about what workers are faced with under current legislation and why advocates are campaigning against it.
