Reconciliation Across the Ditch

One year before Cook landed in Australia he made landfall in New Zealand. Yet the settlement of both Australia and New Zealand happened in vastly different ways. Australia was declared Terra Nullius, while across the ditch the British and Maori signed the Treaty of Waitangi.

Nearly 250 years on both nations are still dealing with the impact of colonisation on Indigenous populations in different ways.

Mitch is joined by Dr Malcolm Mulholland from Massey University to talk about what we can learn from New Zealand’s approach to reconciliation.
