Royal Wedding’s Emulation Effect

It’s only four days after the quasi Royal Wedding of Pippa Middleton to James Matthews, but bridal boutiques across Australia are already bracing for ‘the Pippa Effect’.  Donned with a high neck, capped sleeves and silk cotton lace, it is expected that copies and appropriations of Pippa’s dress will land in stores within months. This phenomena where brides to be play copy-cat with Royal  figures has a long history, with Kate Middleton, Diana and even Queen Elizabeth’s 1947 gown gaining popularity worldwide. It seems a royal bride could wear just about anything down the aisle, and it would still be eagerly emulated and echoed at wedding ceremonies across the globe.
