Silo Art showcasing a small Queensland towns heritage

The town of Monto, in Queensland’s North Burnett, was once a vibrant place known for its strong dairy industry.
However, as a result of regulation it saw the number of dairy farms plummet from more than 400 down to just three.

Mary Sharp from Monto Magic said while agriculture remains at the heart of the town, the community needed to do something bold to keep it on the map. That something bold was the towns silo art project, bringing a renewed sense of vibrancy to the town. The project was partially funded by Rural Aid Australia and is now the most northern artwork on the popular silo art trail.
The ‘Three Moons’ silos along the Burnett Highway depict several stories of yesteryear: from gold mining to mustering and the Dreamtime.
Coordinator Mary Sharp joined to discuss the project and its ability to showcase the town heritage.
