State inquiry into Koala decline underway

The future health of Koalas in New South Wales is in doubt.

The NSW State inquiry into Koala populations and habitats is currently underway and it has received over 250 submissions.

The inquiry is looking into koala populations and habitats around the state.

The furry national animal is under threat as its population declines due to land clearing and a deadly chlamydia epidemic.

Submissions closed last week and this Friday there will be a hearing in the Senate.

Dr Oisín Sweeney, a senior ecologist at the National Parks Association of NSW, gives us an insight into the inquiry.
