Stateless Children of ISIS

An estimated 45 000 children with ties to ISIS are at risk of statelessness in Iraq, according to a report by the Norwegian Refugee Council.

The issue lies with documentation – the birth certificates under IS-rule are considered invalid by the Iraqi government.

This means thousands of children residing in IS camps are barred from attending school and receiving vaccinations – with major implications to arise when they grow older.

Tune in to hear Professor Michael Humphrey from Sydney Uni’s Sociology and Social Policy department discuss this crucial matter.
