Sydney Writers Festival

The Sydney Writers Festival returns for its 21st year an exciting and jam-packed week of talks from todays most influential world authors. 2ser host Andrew Pople spoke to festival editor Michaela McGuire on what to expect this year.

The theme for this year’s festival is “The Year of Power”, particularly touching on the shaking of old power struggles, and the rise of new voices. Stories of difference in society have become more powerful and supported than ever. The Sydney Writers Festival aims to shed further light on the lesser-known, but nonetheless important, stories of the past and present.

Highlights for this year include talks from writers Alexis Okeowo (“A Moonless, Starless Sky”), Jennifer Egan (“Manhattan Beach”), André Aciman (“Call Me By Your Name”), as well as forum discussions on ‘fake news’ and queer literature from the world’s leading journalists.

The 21st Sydney Writers Festival runs from 30 April – 6 May 2018 at Carriageworks, Redfern. For more information and tickets to the festival, visit https://www.swf.org.au.
