The Binar-1 Cube-Sat

On the 28th of August, a SpaceX rocket will (hopefully) launch from Cape Canaveral carrying supplies for the International Space Station. But tucked away amongst these supplies is a very small and unassuming cube that carries the hopes and dreams of a dedicated team of Western Australian scientists.

This cube is a satellite – or cube-sat – called Binar-1, after the Noongar word for “fireball”, and it was built by a team of enterprising space-farers at Curtin University.

We were fortunate enough to be joined by the Project Coordinator of the Binar Project, Ben Hartig of Curtin University, to tell us more about this project.
